The fun of Disney Channel’s High School Musical comes to Fourways Mall
Disney Channel’s Original Movie “High School Musical” continues to take the market by storm with over 150 million unique viewers worldwide. From Wednesday June 27th to Sunday 1st July, Fourways Mall will be hosting an exciting High School Musical interactive event – featuring fabulous performances and activities themed around this hit Disney Channel movie.
High School Musical tells the story of popular high school basketball star Troy and shy, academically gifted newcomer Gabriella who discover they share a secret passion for singing. When they sign up together to audition for the lead roles in the school musical, it threatens their school’s rigid social order and sends their peers into an uproar.
The activities in the Fourways Mall Junxion Court, Lake Level will take place every day at 11am and 3pm. Fans will be able to:
- Watch cheerleaders pom dancing music from High School Musical
- Kids are invited to join the High School Musical dance class where they will be taught the moves to “Bop to the Top” and will do their routine in a group performance to the crowd!
- Play basketball with players from the ESPN basketball team
- The ESPN basketball team is an all-star team that was put together 3 years ago to showcase the best talent in South Africa. The ESPN team is now the top club team in the country and is ranked fifth on the African continent. Quintin Denyssen, captain of the ESPN team, also skippers the South African national team. Team-mates, Thabo Letsebe and Lesego Molebatse, who gained international experience on the US College Basketball circuit, will join him at Fourways Mall to shoot hoops with young basketball fans and aspirant stars.
- Sing along to hit songs from the movie with the High School Musical karaoke session
These extraordinary activities will take place on a set in the Fourways Mall Junxion Court, Lake Level which recreates the energy of High School Musical.
High School Musical, which airs here in South Africa on Disney Channel, DStv Channel 82, has gained over 70 million unique viewers across Europe, Middle East and Africa and the soundtrack has hit triple platinum in the US and double platinum in the UK.
High School Musical is written by Peter Barsocchini and directed and choreographed by Kenny Ortega, also of Dirty Dancing fame with choreographers Charles Klapow and Bonnie Story. Don Schain is the producer and Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush are the executive producers. It stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel, and Monique Coleman.
Since its launch on 25 September 2006, Disney Channel Africa has continued to rank the number one kids channel in multi channel homes in South Africa. It attracts double the audience to all of its nearest competitors put together and ranks as one of the top three performing Disney Channels worldwide.
